A Change of Plans...

Image
Let's get it all out in the open: I frogged that mystery blanket. Again, I goofed somewhere in the midst of it; somewhere, I ended up adding 6 extra stitches. I was wondering why it was starting to waver and decided to count. Yeah... frogged. No worries; I WILL start over on it. In the meantime, I did at least finish that baby blanket that I mentioned in the last post (the link can be found there). The pattern called for a chain of 108. That was my intentions... until I realized how large this blanket was going to be. The one thing that I will start being with whoever decides to read my posts is honest. I had no intentions on making the child a blanket that will be with him for a long time; it's a long story which I will get into later. Plus, it was basically a last minute thing, anyway. So, what I did was half the required 108 chain as well as the light blue rows. In the original pattern, it calls for 30, 3, 2, 3, 14, 3, 2, 3, 30. I did 20, 3, 2, 3, 10, 3, 2, 3...

I Kinda Lied...

Well, "lied" is such a terrible word. Especially because it wasn't my intentions. I think I've mentioned once before that I am a procrastinator. Another one of my horrible flaws is that I love to start projects but never finish them. In these past two cases, I'll even frog projects altogether. This happens when I hit a major snag and since I have to frog a row or three to get to the problem, might as well cancel the whole thing! That's just the way I think on a lot of these crocheting projects of mine. My last post, I told you that I ditched my year project of the temperature blanket and started on a Sophie's Universe one for my grandmother. Somehow, I must've skipped a few steps because it started to come out very wrong, particularly towards the part where the mandala was to be squared. I frogged the rows several times to the point where it looked as though it would not be finished on time for my grandmother. Instead, I worked on the  Super Cool...

It's Been A While...

Gotta love when this thing called life gets in the way of things! I know that I've been absent so I apologize. First things first: the temperature blanket has been frogged. Maybe with another year approaching, I'll become serious about it once more. It was doomed from the start: I wasn't aware of a project like that until a month after it should've started. Then, I'm always finding better patterns to work with: I'm very indecisive when it comes to basically everything in my life. I still have a lot of unfinished projects but the main priority is to finish my grandmother's blanket before her birthday. Hopefully, I'll post pictures of the progress soon. The pattern is called  Sophie's Universe  and it's a CAL (or a Crochet Along). I'm assuming that it was meant to last for a year, if not at least half a year. But it only took me a week to reach part 3; if I keep at it, I will reach my goal in time.  That's basically it. Not much ...

Update on Temp Blanket

So... you guys get to know a bit more about me and my habits! I like to start things. Therefore, I am a starter (*giggles*). I am not, however, a finisher. I have at least ten projects that I've started and have either lallygagged on or abandoned. Usually what happens is that I would start and midway, I'll get that "nope" feeling and unravel. This temperature blanket was no exception to my rule. Sooo, forget the last two posts... kind of. If I was an experienced crocheter, making the motifs would be the easiest way to do this. But, I'm not; I barely know how to sew. I had done 24 motifs and sown them together only to come up with dilemma after dilemma. I made the decision that it would be better to stay somewhat traditional with rows. I found a cute pattern to go by and of course, this makes it a bit tougher on me. However, the pattern is simple enough. If I stop procrastinating and work on the blanket for about a few hours non-stop, I could possibly catch...

J Linz's Temperature Blanket!

Image
Alrighty! New blank slate! This is what I'll be doing for my temperature blanket project. You don't have to be exact; make it your own! Someone had stated to make sure that the colors blended well with one another. But if you want to make an ugly duckling blanket, who am I to judge? And besides: you might live in an area where the weather is bipolar and you're bound to end up with non-matching rows! First things first: pick out your temperature ranges and match them with the colors of your choice. I think I mentioned that this was actually the hardest part of the project. If not, yeah: this is the hardest part! Unless you're a meteorologist or someone whose brain holds on to useless facts, you're not going to know the average weather for your area. I mean, it's common knowledge that there is a slim chance Floridians will need to use the ranges of 30 and below. But for the rest of us, we're gonna have to look this info up! To be safe, I would use the entire...

2016 Major Project!

Image
I have a confession to make. I am a procrastinator. I spend way too much time lurking on Pinterest, pinning things from crochet and cross stitch patterns to Martian Manhunter pictures. Most of my pins, particularly the ones related to craft and food items, I've never made. I have good intentions, though! So, I had been seeing a lot of pins related to this temperature blanket. The pictures were pretty so I pinned them, telling myself that I would take a look at a later date, as always! It wasn't until my sister-in-law mentioned it that I was drawn back to it. She's not a crochet/knit person but she enjoys homemade items like that as well as DIY projects; she has the making of a quality remodeling queen! So, I took a look at the project last night. And it's a great way to start you off on a major crocheting, knitting project (I'll be honest: I've only seen it as a crochet project but I'm pretty sure you could knit it...? *shrugs*)! It's basically exact...

Dread Head Headband

Image
*originally posted back in 2014*      For a beginner crocheter, there is but so many things you feel that you can create. Getting to the “big stuff” (you know, your afghans and beautiful shawls) seems so far away in the future! But, the more you crochet, the more you learn! I'm a somewhat beginner crocheter and so I'm always on the lookout for something simple that I can whip up. I've only completed three things: a pair of uneven mittens, a travel case and a small tote (add the matching flower then I can brag and say that's four  things). So, when I saw this pattern for a simple headband, I jumped on it! The small, child tote... ... Matching flower! :D The one thing that caught my attention was the title of it: Dread Head. I've grown mine for a little over 6 years now; this hairstyle is more of a hassle than I originally planned for it to be: my hair grows so quickly that I literally need it done every two weeks! So, when I saw the title for this h...
