2016 Major Project!

I have a confession to make. I am a procrastinator. I spend way too much time lurking on Pinterest, pinning things from crochet and cross stitch patterns to Martian Manhunter pictures. Most of my pins, particularly the ones related to craft and food items, I've never made. I have good intentions, though!

So, I had been seeing a lot of pins related to this temperature blanket. The pictures were pretty so I pinned them, telling myself that I would take a look at a later date, as always! It wasn't until my sister-in-law mentioned it that I was drawn back to it. She's not a crochet/knit person but she enjoys homemade items like that as well as DIY projects; she has the making of a quality remodeling queen!

So, I took a look at the project last night. And it's a great way to start you off on a major crocheting, knitting project (I'll be honest: I've only seen it as a crochet project but I'm pretty sure you could knit it...? *shrugs*)! It's basically exactly what it sounds like: you will crochet a line a day and the color will be whatever the temperature is for that day.

... Do you want to join me...?

Alright! So, I'm broke and that hinders me in buying yarn. I mean, I don't need to start on anymore projects: I have about ten that need to be worked on at the moment (pictures later, I promise)! But, I really, really wanted to start on this! If you want to, there are definitely pre-made guides to be found as far as the colors and the temperature ranges. I wanted to be as close as possible to the actual colors that meteorologists used. Which, spoiler: they're the actual colors of the rainbow! Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet and a couple of shades in between. I remembered that my niece wanted me to make her a rainbow blanket even though I already made her a granny square one. So, I already had the colors (she'll forgive me for not making her a blanket...)!

After looking around, I made the decision to come up with my own temp range and colors. I will be using nine colors/nine temp ranges:

91 and above: Burgundy
81-90: Cherry Red
71-80: Pumpkin
61-70: Bright Yellow
51-60: Spring Green
41-50: Blue
31-40: Soft Navy
21-30: Medium Purple
20 and below: Baby Pink

I also made the decision to not do a row but make motifs. And now that I've made the decision, I also see the problem: it won't come out even. HOWEVER: what I'll do is stitch a few motifs to make the blanket nice and even! This year will have 366 days instead of 365, so by adding 4 more motifs, I can have a blanket that will be 10x37. It won't be the largest blanket but it'll be a blanket so :P LOL

You might have noticed that I am almost a month behind on this project. No worries! The motifs are so easy to make; it takes me roughly ten minutes to make each one! Working behind actually makes this project a bit easier: the temperatures for the days past are already set (and printed out for my convenience)! With that being said; you can either wait until the end of the month and crochet like mad or do it day by day.

This is getting to be long and winded out! LOL So, I'll end it here and post instructions and whatnot in my next post! Happy Crafting! ^_^
