Tip #2: Gauge Checking

Image
Before I start on tip #2, I want to apologize for the delay in posts. To help myself out, let's try to get one post out a week! Tip #2 For Beginners Gauge is very important. I think I pointed this out in my last post. A lot of you beginners may think that it's a waste of yarn. It's not; there are quite a few ways to work that yarn into your project towards the end, if you need it that bad! What is a gauge swatch? It's usually a 4 x 4 worked square, unless specified in the pattern instructions. It's the main determination in what size your finished project will be. It tells you if you're stitching too loose or too tightly. Let's face it; a lot of us take up crocheting and knitting so that we can make our own blankets and clothing. We eventually want to become so good, we're crafting items for others. You don't want to mess up the size of your project in that case!  I made a pair of mittens; it was my very first completed project! I was excited ab...

Tip #1: Organization... and Your First Pattern!

I know what you're thinking: if she's not an expert, how can she help me? Well... smarty-pants, I can try! All I know is that when I initially started out, I had no one to tell me anything; the little I had learned, I learned from books that looked as though they were printed in the 70s! While the stitches have remained the same, a few other things have not. When you pick up crocheting or knitting, you have to seriously ask yourself: am I in this for the long run? Quite honestly, most won't know until they actually get the hang of working stitches. Regardless, this first tip is intended for the serious ones: make space for your materials and your projects. Starting off, you may not buy a lot of yarn or needles. But once you make the decision that this is definitely something you're willing to put some effort into, your "collection" will start to grow... and it will grow rapidly! You're gonna need to start organizing! This is one way to store your yarn!...

Welcome!

{ Remember when I said I would import my other blog to this one? Here is the Welcome from my crocheting blog! } Hi, crocheters! I decided to create a blog that will capture my journey into the world that is crocheting. You're more than welcome to join me in this adventure! I had picked up on the craft about twelve years ago. I was working at a customer service/telemarketing place and had seen quite a few of the ladies with their hooks, yarn and some even with their cross stitch accessories! I was beyond curious and there was one woman kind enough to introduce me to both worlds. Unfortunately, I had found out that learning how to crochet and handling an upset customer wasn't something I was a master of! Twelve years later, I picked up my crochet hooks and yarn and went back over the basics. I have a lot more time on my hands than those many years ago and I've successfully completed three projects! :D My goal? To complete more, of course; as well as to become more skil...
